Página 9 de 10 Another issue that also arises our curiosity is the efficiency of the heat sink itself, if we take into account that the most important factor in the fan must have been the noise level. But, beyond the excellent performance of the product in that matter, we wondered what would happen if we used a more powerful fan, capable of blowing more air through the heat sink -our apologies to the reader, but sometimes our passion for overclocking goes beyond common sense.
To carry out this test, a noisy 40.89 db, 70mm, 5000 RPM and 27.2 CFM fan was added. Just the opposite to what the product offers.
Please, excuse the poor assembly, but we wanted something that could be removed easily, even with a working PC, in case something went wrong.
Once the intallation of the card with the correspondig 'afterburner' was completed, we run the same set of tests with the following results:
Above, in green colors, the temperatures with the NV Silencer 5. In blue, those with the adding of our 'unbearably noisy' fan. In red are represented the curves of the cooler stock. This is just a reminder of the benefits given by the NV Silencer 5.
When speaking about overclocking, 5° C less in the same working conditions is not something to be taken lightly. But, of course, we've lost in the process the NV Silencer 5's main advantage: the noise reduction. Nevertheless, the achieved temperatures were considerable. In conclusion, the heat sink's quality and efficiency are superb.
But there is more than a silent product here. Below the plastic case are components that can really surprise us. So, why bother transforming this in something noisy if it has an outstanding performance with its original features? The answer here is left to the reader. What we simply want to say is that the merge of an ultra efficient heat sink and a silent fan is a hard-to-ignore combination for both regular and advanced users, and all those who instinctively like to modify every piece of hardware, no matter who good it is.
